When Blue Period debuted on Netflix, little did anyone know that the anime would be such a big hit! Now that the debut season of the anime is over, the fans are eyeing the internet and media to learn about the updates on the subsequent season.

Blue Period is based on a manga of the same name written and illustrated by Tsubasa Yamaguchi. The anime revolves around this boy discovering his passion for art and deciding to follow it as his dream.

Blue Period debuted on Netflix on the 9th of October, 2021, and the first season finale aired on the 25th of December, 2021. The anime impressed the entire community, and the viewers couldn’t stop from praising everything the show offered them.

So, will there be a second season to this anime or not? Read this article till the end to find out.

Blue Period Season 2 Release Date

As there is no confirmation about the renewal of the second season, it is difficult to predict the release date of the anime. Per some reports, the second season is already in production. If these reports are true, the second season may hit Netflix by the end of 2023 or the first half in 2024.

If it is to be released next year, fans presume the dates to be around June-July.

Will Blue Period be Renewed for Season 2?

It has been over two years since the first season of the anime aired on the OTT platform. Since then, there has been no update about the renewal. As of November 2023, the anime has not been officially renewed for the second season by its production company, Seven Arcs. That said, fans worldwide are optimistic that the anime will return for its second innings.

The manga has 14 volumes, and the next volume is scheduled to be published on the 22nd of November, 2023. The first season of the Blue Period anime adapted only six volumes (25 chapters). Following the calculation, there are eight volumes available for adaptation, making the audience hopeful that the anime will have its second season.

Like the anime, the reception of the manga has been phenomenal, reaching over 4.5 million copies in circulation. Thus, considering all these facts, the second season looks inevitable.

So, why did the studio not announce the second season?

One of the major reasons for the studio not announcing the second season was the lack of source material. As the first season used around six volumes of the anime, the fans assume that the same amount of source material will be required for another season. And now that eight volumes are available, the expectations of its renewal are high.

Blue Period Season 2 Plot

Talking about the plot of the second season, it is likely to cover the First Year University arc. The story will pick up where it left off, and the second season will start from Volume 7, Chapter 26 of the manga. It will adopt the same amount of content – 25 chapters and the second will reach Saeki’s Drawing Class Mini Arc and the Second Year University Arc.

In the second season, the viewers may see Yaguchi facing new challenges after his admission to the Tokyo University of Arts. As he is surrounded by the best art students in the country, he will have to prove his skills repeatedly, despite his inexperience in the field. In the first season, we see Yaguchi and Yotasuke’s rivalry, which will strengthen into friendship in the second season.

The first season was written by Reiko Yoshida, directed by Koji Masunari and Katsuya Asano, and produced by Seven Arcs. The cast includes the following.

How Did Blue Period Perform?

The reception of the Blue Period has been extremely impressive on the international level. However, the same cannot be said about its origin country. The anime even failed to make it on the list of Netflix Japan’s top 10. But if the international rating of the show is to be checked, it garnered acclaim from the audience and critics alike for the storyline, emotional scenes, and brilliant characterization.

The anime even received sincere ratings on platforms like Myanimelist and IMDb. The former gave it a rating of 7.81/10, whereas the latter gave it a rating of 7.7/10.
